Afghan Ambassador Calls Pakistan’s New Stance on Taliban Unprecedented

Nasir Ahmad Andisha, Afghanistan’s ambassador in Geneva, stated that Pakistan’s recent Foreign Ministry position on the need to free the Afghan people and form an inclusive government is unprecedented in bilateral relations. The Afghan ambassador made these remarks on Tuesday during the “Daily Debate” program on Afghanistan International network. Referring to the October 12 statement by Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, he noted that the country’s new tone towards the Taliban administration reflects a significant shift in attitudes. In that statement, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry used the term “Taliban regime” and called for an end to baseless propaganda, urging the group to focus on establishing a genuine, inclusive, and people-centered government in Afghanistan. The Afghan ambassador also criticized some countries for supporting extremist groups, stating that both Afghanistan and Pakistan have paid a heavy price for the Taliban’s return to the political stage. He added that the use of proxy groups to overthrow governments benefits no country and instead increases regional instability. According to him, the Taliban administration, by sidelining Afghanistan’s political forces and suppressing fundamental freedoms, has shown it has neither legitimacy nor competence to govern the country. Andisha emphasized that the continuation of the current situation poses serious security risks to the region.
