Expansion of Afghanistan’s Economic Ties with Central Asia; Emphasis on Implementing Agreements

Officials at the Ministry of Economy state that the process of expanding economic relations between Afghanistan and Central Asian countries is progressing, with increased contacts and cooperation across several sectors.

According to these officials, the collaborations encompass the fields of agriculture, livestock, transit, railway construction, energy transfer, and the industrial sector. They emphasize that these relations could pave the way for greater connectivity between Afghanistan and regional markets.

Meanwhile, some private sector members say that since the Taliban administration took control of Afghanistan, the level of economic relations with Central Asian countries has expanded compared to the past. However, they point out that many understandings and agreements have yet to be implemented, and practical measures and necessary facilities for traders need to be provided.

Some economic activists believe that the more economic cooperation increases between Afghanistan and Central Asia, the more it can positively impact Afghanistan’s economic situation as well as regional economic stability. Nonetheless, experts have consistently stressed that achieving these goals depends on creating a transparent environment, legal stability, and trust-building at both domestic and regional levels — a matter that has faced challenges in recent years.
