Local sources say over 40 detained after explosion in Fayzabad

Local sources said that more than 40 people were detained after an explosion early Wednesday morning, 15 Mizan, at the Project junction near the Taliban administration police headquarters in Fayzabad, the capital of Badakhshan province.

According to local sources, the blast site is among the areas where labourers gather in the mornings. They added that after the explosion, Taliban forces fired into the air to disperse people and prevent them from approaching the scene.

The office of the Taliban administration police spokesman in Badakhshan confirmed the explosion and said the explosives had been planted inside a flowerpot. According to the office, the target of the blast was a Corolla car, and two civilians sustained minor injuries as a result.

Meanwhile, the Taliban police said it had identified and detained four “suspects”, but local sources in Badakhshan say the number of people detained in connection with the incident is more than 40.

Fayzabad has also witnessed several explosions in recent days. Earlier, local sources reported an explosion in the Waqilabad area of Dasht-e-Shohada, and on Sunday morning, 12 Mizan, the explosion of a bomb-laden motorcycle was reported in the sixth district of Fayzabad city, which, according to sources, had targeted Taliban intelligence employees.
