Media Oversight Chief Says Journalism Is a ‘Trust’, Not Just Reporting News

Sefullah Raed, head of media oversight, said at a training seminar on “strengthening the intellectual, ideological and professional capacity of journalists” that the role of journalists and writers in building society goes beyond publishing news, and that they bear a special responsibility through the path of pen, thought, knowledge and culture.
He stressed that journalism is not merely a profession for disseminating information; rather, in his words, it is a “trust” and a major responsibility to the public.
Raed added that a professional journalist must possess “intellectual awareness,” “ideological stability” and “professional capability,” describing these as essential requirements for media work.
