UNFPA Conducts Psychosocial Support Training to Strengthen Women’s Protection Services in Afghanistan

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Afghanistan announced the launch of a psychosocial support training program, supported by the European Union’s Humanitarian Aid Office (ECHO). The initiative aims to enhance the capacity of participants to provide essential protection services and improve the mental well-being of women and girls. According to published information, participants in the training acquired advanced psychosocial support skills deemed crucial for addressing the urgent needs of women and girls amid Afghanistan’s challenging conditions. Over the past three years, the Taliban administration’s extensive restrictions on education, employment, and social presence of women have raised serious concerns regarding their mental health and access to support services. International organizations have repeatedly emphasized that the continuation of these restrictions has increased the vulnerability of women and girls, significantly raising the demand for psychological and protective services. UNFPA stated that empowering staff and service providers across various regions can contribute to enhancing resilience and improving the welfare of women and girls, an action considered a vital part of the current humanitarian response to support the country’s vulnerable populations.
