Two New Polio Cases Identified in Paktika Province

Following the identification of two positive polio virus cases in Bermal district of Paktika province, local authorities have announced a meeting with organizations actively involved in combating the disease.

The Paktika provincial administration stated in a press release that, during the meeting, local officials met with representatives of health organizations and the regional polio coordination team to discuss the newly recorded cases and future measures to prevent the virus’s spread.

According to the statement, the meeting focused on enhancing coordination between local departments and health facilitation organizations to strengthen the vaccination process and increase community awareness about the dangers of the disease.

Although polio is a vaccine-preventable disease, restrictions imposed by the Taliban administration in some areas have hindered health teams’ access to children, raising the risk of the disease’s spread.
