Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Warns of Revenue Decline Due to Halted Trade with Afghanistan

Officials from Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province have issued a warning that the cessation of trade with Afghanistan has led to serious economic consequences, negatively affecting both government revenue and employment for citizens. According to Pakistani media reports, Mazammil Aslam, the financial advisor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, stated in an official letter to Jam Kamal, Pakistan’s Federal Minister of Commerce, that following the closure of transit routes between Pakistan and Afghanistan, trade across the border has almost completely stopped. The letter emphasized that if this situation continues, greater economic losses could be inflicted on traders, workers, and the regional economic structure—a matter requiring urgent attention from Pakistan’s central authorities. The financial advisor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has urged the federal government to hold a high-level meeting to examine the crisis and seek practical solutions for resuming trade and mitigating economic damages.
