UNICEF Cash Program Supports Over 25,000 Families in Afghanistan in 2025

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) representative announced that the ‘Cash Transfer to Mothers and Children’ program supported more than 25,000 families in Afghanistan in 2025. This initiative aims to improve the health and nutrition status of vulnerable families.

Tajuddin Ouyvali, UNICEF’s representative in Afghanistan, wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) page on Monday, January 26, that the program provides cash assistance to families to help them meet essential needs related to health, nutrition, and the care of mothers and children.

According to him, the program mainly focuses on prevention and strengthening primary health care so families can independently care for their mothers and children, reducing their reliance on emergency aid.

The program continues to operate amid a situation where a large portion of Afghan families under Taliban rule face widespread poverty and economic crisis, resulting in irregular access to sufficient food, health services, and basic living necessities. This situation has increased concerns among humanitarian organizations.

UNICEF had previously warned that in 2026, about 21.9 million people in Afghanistan, including 11.6 million children, will require humanitarian assistance—figures illustrating the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the country.
