Taliban Ministry Warns of Potential Floods in Multiple River Basins Across Afghanistan

The Taliban’s Ministry of Energy and Water has issued a warning about the likelihood of flooding in several major river basins across Afghanistan on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. According to the ministry, this situation could pose serious risks to several areas.
The released statement highlights that the Harirod-Murghab, Helmand, Northern, Panj Amu, and Kabul river basins are at risk of flooding during this period. The ministry specifically emphasized that rising water levels in these basins are expected.
Additionally, the ministry warned that flood routes in the provinces of Herat, Ghor, Badghis, Farah, Nimroz, Helmand, Kandahar, Uruzgan, Jawzjan, Sar-e Pol, Faryab, Balkh, Samangan, Baghlan, Ghazni, Logar, Maidan Wardak, Kabul, Panjshir, Kapisa, Parwan, Paktika, Paktia, Khost, Laghman, Kunar, and Nuristan could witness flooding.
The Ministry of Energy and Water has urged citizens to avoid approaching rivers and flood-prone areas to prevent casualties and damage. This warning comes amid forecasts of rain and snowfall in 21 provinces across the country—an increasingly concerning situation in recent years due to ineffective water resource management and poor preparedness by responsible authorities.
