New Medical Laboratory Opened at Islamic University of Afghanistan

The Taliban’s Ministry of Higher Education has announced the establishment and inauguration of a new laboratory and several subsidiary departments at the Faculty of Medicine of the Islamic University of Afghanistan, with a cost of approximately 35 million Afghanis. According to the ministry, this center is equipped with advanced medical devices, examination materials, and furniture including desks and chairs.

Based on the ministry’s statement, the laboratory has been activated for the departments of Medical Technology and Microbiology, encompassing branches such as Molecular Biology, Bacteriology, Parasitology, Mycology, and Immunology. The center enables the conduction of various examinations including PCR, culture, DNA analysis, and some other specialized tests.

Mawlawi Nida Mohammad Nadim, the acting Minister of Higher Education, stated during the inauguration ceremony that the existing facilities must be utilized effectively and according to standards. He emphasized that the activation of this laboratory can pave the way for expanding technical and professional cooperation with the country’s specialist doctors and improve the quality of education.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Higher Education, without providing further details, has announced that other laboratories have also been established this year in several emirate universities. However, critics consistently urge the Taliban administration to ensure greater transparency, equal access, and genuine improvement of higher education conditions alongside announcing such projects.
