Red Cross Warns of Deepening Humanitarian Crisis in Afghanistan

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has reported that Afghanistan continues to face one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises, with millions of people urgently requiring assistance to survive.

According to the report, in 2025 approximately 22.9 million people—over half of the country’s population—are in need of humanitarian aid due to the consequences of decades of armed conflict, economic hardships, natural disasters, and the effects of climate change.

The report further states that a lack of livelihood opportunities, widespread unemployment, and limited access to healthcare have pushed many families to the brink of survival, significantly increasing the daily pressures on the population.

The international organization warned that the continuation of these conditions, coupled with the Taliban administration’s inability to provide basic services and create sustainable economic opportunities, could deepen the humanitarian crisis and increase needs across various parts of the country.
