Red Cross Launches Program to Reunite Separated Families in Afghanistan

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), in collaboration with the Afghan Red Crescent Society, has launched a program to help reconnect families separated in Afghanistan. This initiative aims to alleviate the suffering of families whose contact with their loved ones has been cut off for various reasons.
On Sunday, December 20, the organization wrote in a message on the social media platform X that war, ongoing violence, forced migrations, and natural disasters are the main causes of family separations in Afghanistan.
According to the Red Cross, uncertainty about the whereabouts or condition of family members places severe psychological and emotional stress on individuals. This issue carries profound humanitarian consequences, especially in a society that has been caught in crisis for years.
The “Family Reunification” program seeks to establish safe communication channels to reconnect separated individuals with their families. This effort is considered vital by many affected families, particularly given the lack of effective supportive mechanisms from the Taliban administration.
