Pakistan-Afghanistan Chamber Reports $4.5 Billion Trade Loss Over Border Closures

The Pakistan-Afghanistan Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PAJCCI) has announced that Pakistan has suffered over $4.5 billion in trade losses due to the continued closure of transit routes between the two countries.

According to Pakistani media reports, the chamber stated that under normal conditions—particularly during peak agricultural and construction seasons—daily exports through these routes amounted to between $50 and $60 million. However, this trade has now come to a halt.

PAJCCI has warned that if the current disruption continues, seasonal exports such as oranges and potatoes—typically traded between December and March—could face further estimated losses of around $200 million.

The prolonged shutdown of trade routes between Afghanistan and Pakistan not only harms businesses on both sides, but also negatively impacts the livelihoods of thousands of residents in border regions. PAJCCI emphasized that transparent management and serious coordination between the Taliban administration and Pakistani authorities are essential to prevent further economic damage.
