Cancer Hospital to Be Built in Kabul

The Taliban-run Ministry of Urban Development and Housing has held a meeting to review the construction process of a cancer hospital in Kabul. The session, chaired by Deputy Minister Mawlawi Gul Zarin Sabir and attended by members of the oversight committee, focused on drafting guidelines for monitoring the project and implementing directives from the Taliban’s Prime Minister’s Office.

According to Sabir, the oversight committee is tasked with evaluating all technical, financial, and environmental aspects of the project. The hospital, funded by the Ata Charity Foundation, will be built on 11 acres of land in Kabul’s new city. Work on fencing the project site has already begun.

Representatives of the Ata Charity Foundation presented details about the work plan, land documents, agreements with the Ministry of Public Health, fundraising efforts, and cooperation with foreign medical centers. Oversight members raised questions and received clarifications on these points.

The committee also put forward proposals for regulatory guidelines and coordination measures to ensure smooth progress. It was agreed that further meetings would be held to monitor the project.

While the construction of this hospital marks an important step in improving healthcare services for cancer patients, experts stress the need for transparent oversight, public access to project information, and proper use of resources. Past experiences have shown that without accountability, public projects risk misuse and eventual failure.
