Turkish Investors Express Interest in Afghanistan’s Water Projects

A group of Turkish investors have expressed interest in Afghanistan’s water development projects during a meeting with Mujib-ur-Rahman Omar Akhundzada, Deputy Minister of Water at the Taliban-run Ministry of Water and Energy.

The meeting, attended by the head of the ‘Aufi Bahram’ company, focused on economic opportunities in the water sector. The Turkish side indicated their readiness to provide both financial and technical support for the country’s infrastructure initiatives.

During the session, the Deputy Minister highlighted several key water infrastructure projects, including plans to transfer water from Kabul to Panjshir and the construction of the Lalandar Shatoot Dam. These are among major projects that, if implemented, could significantly improve water resource management in Afghanistan.

Since the Taliban’s return to power, infrastructure sectors such as water supply have faced stagnation and a lack of transparency. While Afghanistan is in urgent need of investment in infrastructure, the absence of legal and security guarantees has deterred broader foreign participation.
