Woman killed in collision on Balkh-Samangan highway

A collision between two vehicles on the Balkh-Samangan highway has killed a 72-year-old woman and injured three others.

Hashmatullah Rahmani, spokesman for the Taliban-run police command in Samangan, said the incident took place today, Monday, 30 Sonbola, in the Khulm district of the province.

According to him, the crash happened between a “Saracha” and a “Pاسو” vehicle, and the driver of the “Pاسو” was also among the injured.

The Taliban police spokesman said initial investigations indicate driver negligence was the cause of the incident.

Traffic accidents in Afghanistan claim the lives of citizens every year and leave hundreds injured. Poor roads, driver negligence and a lack of traffic signs are considered the main causes of these incidents.

The incident comes as Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzada has recently ordered the arrest and trial of those responsible for traffic accidents. However, reports indicate that similar incidents continue to occur in different parts of the country. Khulm district is one of the areas of Samangan province along the Balkh-Samangan highway.
