Taliban in Takhar orders university staff to attend compulsory religious seminar

The Taliban administration in Takhar province has held a one-day seminar for staff and lecturers at Takhar University on ablution, غسل, tayammum and the performance of prayers, in an effort that continues the mandatory introduction of religious programmes in government offices.

Takhar University, which operates under Taliban rule, said in a Facebook post on Thursday, 19 September, that the seminar stressed the importance of offering prayers.

According to officials at Takhar University, Taliban authorities spoke to participants in the programme about matters related to ablution, غسل, tayammum, prayer and funeral prayer.

The statement said the 10-point recommendations of Taliban leader Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada on the observance of prayers were also presented to lecturers and staff at the university.

Such programmes have continued at a time when, since the Taliban’s return to power, attendance by government employees at religious seminars has been made compulsory in various parts of the country. Takhar University is located in Taloqan, the capital of Takhar province.
