Taliban Administration Establishes Aerospace Faculty at Kabul Polytechnic University
The Taliban-run Ministry of Higher Education has announced that, for the first time in Afghanistan’s higher education system, a Faculty of Aerospace and Advanced Air Systems has been established at Kabul Polytechnic University.
According to the ministry, the faculty has four departments: Drone Engineering, Aircraft Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, and Radar and Avionics Engineering. The Taliban says the creation of these fields is part of its plan to train skilled personnel in the sectors the country needs.
Neda Mohammad Nadim, acting minister of higher education in the Taliban administration, said at a meeting of the Higher Education Council that professors should receive more support and better educational facilities should be provided. He made the remarks while speaking about the Taliban administration’s five-year achievements.
The report says a number of military experts have described the creation of the faculty as a step toward strengthening the country’s scientific and technical capacities. According to them, education in aerospace, drones, radar and avionics can help develop technical capabilities and domestic industries.
Some students have also welcomed the establishment of the faculty, saying that training in new and specialized fields can create more opportunities for young people. Officials from the Taliban-run Ministry of Higher Education said they are trying to provide the conditions for training the skilled workforce needed by the country through the creation of specialized fields.
Kabul Polytechnic University is one of Afghanistan’s specialized higher education institutions in engineering, and the creation of new fields at the university is usually aimed at training technical cadres.
