Taliban Says Aid Pact Signed for Families Hit by Disasters in Kunar

The Taliban administration says a memorandum of understanding worth $265,919 has been signed between the National Disaster Management Authority and the AWUDO Foundation to assist families affected in Kunar province. Under the agreement, the aid is to be distributed in the Chawki and Nurgal districts.

According to Taliban officials, the programme will provide cash assistance to 360 families, goats or sheep to 150 families, and hygiene kits to 350 families. Training in small businesses and livestock farming is also part of the plan.

Mullah Nooruddin Turabi, head of the National Disaster Management Authority, and Khalid Haqmal, programme director at the AWUDO Foundation, signed the agreement. The Taliban administration says training centres for sewing, handicrafts and other vocational skills will also be set up as part of the programme.

Kunar province is located in eastern Afghanistan, and some of its districts are affected every year by natural disasters and the damage they cause. The National Disaster Management Authority is responsible for responding to natural events and coordinating emergency aid.
