Russian and Balkh Traders Discuss Fresh Fruit Exports by Rail

A number of Russian traders and representatives of the private sector have said efforts are under way to create the conditions for exporting fresh Afghan fruit to Russia via rail.

The Taliban-run Bakhtar news agency reported on Sunday, 15 Sunbula, that the issue was raised during a meeting between Russian traders and traders from Balkh province. According to the report, the two sides discussed ways to transport fresh Afghan fruit to markets in Russia.

The meeting also discussed providing opportunities for online education for Afghan youth. Traders from both sides also stressed the expansion of joint investment and the strengthening of trade ties.

Balkh province in northern Afghanistan is considered one of the country’s important trade routes and is connected to the regional rail network through Hairatan port, a route that has played a role in the transport of commercial goods in recent years.
