Trump Seeks to Designate Muslim Brotherhood a Terrorist Organization

U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that his administration is working to designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a foreign terrorist organization. According to Trump, the legal process for this measure is underway and will be completed “soon and in the strongest possible terms.”
The American news outlet ‘Just the News’ reported on Sunday that documents related to this effort are being finalized, and the Trump administration is determined to move forward with the decision in a firm manner.
Founded in Egypt in 1928, the Muslim Brotherhood is one of the oldest Islamist political groups in the Arab world. Although the group remains active in some Muslim-majority countries, it has faced bans and opposition from several governments. Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Syria, and Russia have all declared the group illegal.
Most recently, Jordan banned the group’s activities earlier this year, citing an alleged sabotage plot. Trump’s new initiative could have significant political and security implications both regionally and globally.
While terrorism remains a key concern for many countries, the criteria and processes for designating terrorist groups have long been a subject of debate. The Trump administration’s move is also likely to provoke a range of international governmental and institutional responses.
