Afghanistan to Attend SCO Plus Meeting After Bishkek Summit
Yuri Ushakov, aide to the Russian president, has said that the SCO Plus meeting will be held after the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Bishkek, with Afghanistan and several other countries taking part.
The state-run TASS news agency reported on Tuesday, citing Ushakov, that leaders of SCO member states, observer countries, dialogue partners and guests invited by the host country will attend the meeting.
According to him, the discussions will focus on major regional and international issues. Ushakov also said the event will be held under the title: “The United Nations as a key element of a just world order; the contribution of SCO Plus countries to the formation of a multipolar world.”
According to TASS, Afghanistan will participate in the meeting alongside Mongolia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Bahrain, Egypt, Cambodia, Qatar, Kuwait, Laos, the Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Sri Lanka.
The heads of several international bodies, including the United Nations, the Eurasian Economic Union, the Collective Security Treaty Organisation and the Commonwealth of Independent States, are also expected to attend.
However, the Taliban administration has so far not commented on the report regarding Afghanistan’s participation in the meeting. The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation is a regional body focused on security, political and economic cooperation, and this year’s summit is being held in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan.
