Sara Netanyahu’s New Remarks Deepen Political Row in Israel
A fresh accusation by Sara Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister’s wife, against Yair Golan, a former deputy chief of staff of the Israeli army, has again intensified the political uproar surrounding the security failures linked to the Al-Aqsa Flood attack.
According to The Times of Israel, citing Mehr News Agency, Sara Netanyahu claimed that Yair Golan had prior knowledge of the Al-Aqsa Flood operation before it took place. The remarks come as pressure continues to mount on Benjamin Netanyahu over his handling of the crisis and the security lapses.
Yair Golan has rejected the accusation and said he would file a complaint against the Israeli prime minister’s wife. His party also said Netanyahu is seeking to shift responsibility away from himself rather than apologise for the security failures.
Amid the tensions, Gadi Eisenkot, one of Netanyahu’s main rivals, said he was avoiding accountability over what he described as the biggest failure in Israel’s history.
At the same time, reports say Netanyahu’s cabinet has prevented the formation of an official committee to examine the security gaps, despite three years having passed since the Al-Aqsa Flood operation. Sara Netanyahu, however, has called for the creation of an investigative committee to examine the possibility of treason among Israeli officials.
Sara Netanyahu has also been in the headlines in recent days because of her contentious positions and behaviour. Reports have previously surfaced about inappropriate behaviour toward staff and other controversies.
