Taliban Say 159 Kilograms of Opium Seized in Zabul

The Taliban administration said it has discovered 159 kilograms of opium in Zabul.

According to the Taliban, its security forces seized the narcotics during a search operation in the southern province.

Taliban officials said the drugs were found at a checkpoint belonging to the highway protection battalion of the Zabul police command. The administration did not say when the incident took place or provide further details on how the drugs were being transported.

The Taliban also said three people had been arrested in connection with the case. It said the detainees would be handed over to judicial authorities after investigations are completed.

Zabul is one of Afghanistan’s southern provinces, through which a number of major highways pass. In official reports, these routes have repeatedly been mentioned in connection with drug trafficking.
