New Bridge Inaugurated in Waras District of Bamyan Province

A new bridge has been officially inaugurated in the village of Qol Haidar, located in Waras district of Bamyan province, Afghanistan. The project was fully funded by local residents. Measuring 18 meters in length and 3.5 meters in width, the bridge spans the Helmand River in the Sorkhjoy area.

Saboor Sighani, spokesperson for the Bamyan governor, confirmed the news and told the media that the bridge was built with durable materials and a solid structure. He stated that the aim of the project is to address transportation challenges between several villages in the district. According to Sighani, the bridge significantly facilitates the movement of local residents and vehicles across the area.

At the inauguration ceremony, Mawlawi Abdullah Sarhadi—appointed as Bamyan’s governor by the Taliban administration—praised the local population for their cooperation in the area’s reconstruction. He pledged greater efforts to address the challenges facing remote and mountainous regions of Bamyan.

Nevertheless, while projects like this offer some hope for improved local infrastructure, they also highlight broader shortcomings in centralized management and the Taliban administration’s neglect of underdeveloped regions. In the absence of government support, local communities are often forced to take initiative to meet even their basic needs.
