Taliban says it has discovered and destroyed two drug factories in Zabul

The Taliban administration says its anti-narcotics forces have discovered and destroyed two drug production factories in Zabul province, in an operation that it says also led to the seizure of large quantities of raw materials and chemicals.

According to the Taliban-run police command in Zabul, the operations were carried out in the districts of Chora and Chinar Tu. As a result, two drug production factories containing “2,985 kilograms of opium, 75 kilograms of soda and 60 litres of acid” were found and then burned.

At the same time, Taliban officials in Kunduz province said that in the Aliabad area of the province, the smuggling of “11 kilograms of heroin” was prevented, and one person was arrested in connection with the case.

The Taliban administration reported these operations as trafficking and drug production in parts of Afghanistan remain among the major security and public health concerns, with their consequences, particularly along transit routes, also affecting neighbouring countries.
