Three Irrigation Canals Built in Baghlan Province with 10.4 Million Afghani Funding

Three irrigation canals in the Nahreen and Khanjan districts of Baghlan province have been constructed and put into operation at a cost of 10.4 million Afghanis. According to local officials, these projects will enable the irrigation of hundreds of acres of agricultural land.

The Department of Rural Rehabilitation and Development of the Taliban administration in Baghlan announced on Wednesday, July 29, that with the completion of these canals, farmers’ access to water has improved, and part of the irrigation needs of farmland in these areas will be met.

According to the department, the funding for these projects was provided by the World Food Programme (WFP), aiming to strengthen agriculture and support the livelihoods of rural residents.

Agriculture is one of the main pillars of Afghanistan’s economy, yet water shortages and deteriorating irrigation infrastructure have long been challenges for this sector. In recent years, international organizations have supported small infrastructure projects such as the construction of irrigation canals to aid farmers and improve food security across the country.
