IOM Chief Visits Torkham Border to Oversee Aid for Returning Afghan Migrants

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced that its Chief of Mission in Afghanistan visited the Torkham border crossing to review the provision of immediate services to returning Afghan migrants.

According to the organization, the visit took place on Tuesday, July 28, aiming to assess how primary assistance is being delivered to individuals re-entering the country after their return.

The report states that the IOM, in collaboration with partner agencies at Torkham, is actively providing emergency services and initial support to the returnees.

The organization added that coordination efforts continue to deliver timely and coherent responses to the needs of returning migrants, based on humanitarian and protective principles. The Torkham crossing in Nangarhar province is one of the most significant transit routes between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
