Floods in Eastern Afghanistan Leave Thousands in Urgent Need of Aid, Women and Girls Most Affected
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has reported that recent floods in eastern Afghanistan have left thousands facing urgent needs, with women and girls bearing the brunt of the impact.
The agency stated on Sunday, July 26, on its X (formerly Twitter) page that it is providing emergency health services, essential supplies, and psychosocial support to address the situation of those affected.
According to UNFPA, efforts are ongoing to ensure that vital services, especially for mothers and other vulnerable groups, remain accessible without interruption to essential care.
Meanwhile, Hamdullah Fetrat, deputy spokesman of the Taliban administration, earlier announced that at least 24 people were killed and 85 others injured due to floods in the center and surrounding areas of Nuristan province.
The recent floods across several parts of the country have caused extensive human and financial damage, increasing the need for humanitarian assistance. Afghanistan is among the countries most vulnerable to natural disasters and experiences annual casualties and destruction caused by floods.
