UN Office Reports Rising Human Trafficking in Afghanistan for Fraud Exploitation
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Afghanistan has reported an increase in human trafficking aimed at forcing individuals into criminal activities within the fraud industry, marking it as a growing form of human exploitation.
On Sunday, July 26, the agency posted on its X page that traffickers confiscate victims’ passports after transporting them and continuously monitor them to prevent escape or seeking help.
According to the office, those exploited in this manner should not be considered criminals but identified as victims in need of support.
The message emphasized that victims of human trafficking deserve rescue, protection, and trauma-informed care services.
The UNODC is a United Nations agency that works to combat organized crime, drug trafficking, and human trafficking across various countries.
