Taliban Extends Deadline for Registration and Taxation of Undocumented Vehicles

The Taliban administration has announced the extension of the deadline for the registration and taxation of undocumented one-ton vehicles until the end of the current solar year. This move, amid difficult economic conditions, imposes new financial burdens on vehicle owners.

The Taliban’s Ministry of Finance stated that this decision was made considering the economic situation of the people and is already being implemented in the zones of Kabul, Herat, Balkh, Nangarhar, Kandahar, Kunduz, and Khost/Paktia.

According to the ministry, a 35 percent discount on tariffs has been applied to vehicles manufactured between 1990 and 2004, while vehicles made after 2005 benefit from a 60 percent tariff reduction.

In recent years, registration and taxation of undocumented vehicles have become a key revenue program for the Taliban administration. However, this process, coinciding with a market slump and decreased purchasing power of residents, has also sparked criticism.
