UN OCHA: Over Four Million Children in Afghanistan Face Nutritional Crisis
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has announced that over four million children in Afghanistan are at risk of malnutrition and require nutritional aid.
On Monday, July 20, OCHA stated on its X (formerly Twitter) page that by 2026, approximately 4.9 million mothers and children in Afghanistan will need nutritional support; a figure that underscores the ongoing crisis in the country.
OCHA emphasized that timely action could save the lives of many children and mothers. According to the agency, millions of mothers continue to struggle to maintain hope despite the threat of malnutrition to their children.
In recent years, Afghanistan has faced severe humanitarian crises, widespread poverty, and food insecurity. Relief organizations have repeatedly warned that children, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers are among the most vulnerable groups to malnutrition.
