New York Mayor Considers Possible Arrest of Netanyahu during UN General Assembly Visit

The Mayor of New York has announced that if Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, travels to the city to attend the United Nations General Assembly meeting in September, the possibility of his arrest will be examined. He emphasized that this issue will be assessed strictly within the framework of existing laws.

According to international media reports, Zohran Mamdani stated that there is currently an “active dialogue” with New York’s legal department to determine whether there is a legal basis for such an action.

In an interview with The New York Times, he said: “We will do whatever the law in New York allows me to do; however, we will not write a new law to achieve this goal.” He added that any potential decision would be made solely within the boundaries of applicable laws.

The Mayor of New York also expressed his belief that Netanyahu should appear before The Hague, referring to the International Criminal Court, which previously issued an arrest warrant against the Israeli Prime Minister over allegations of “war crimes in Gaza.” The United Nations General Assembly meeting is held annually in September in New York City, attracting high-ranking officials from various countries.
