Belgium Bans Imports from Israeli-Occupied Palestinian Territories

The Belgian federal government has announced a ban on imports of goods from the Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories during its last cabinet meeting before the summer recess. This decision was made after prolonged discussions that extended into early morning; however, details regarding the implementation of the ban have not yet been released.
Belgian news agency Belga reported that the ban is part of Belgium’s review of its trade policies toward Israeli settlements in the occupied territories. Officials have not clarified which specific goods will be subject to the ban, nor when it will come into effect.
Earlier, on July 13, Belgium’s Foreign Minister stated that Europe has a biased stance towards Israel and that all pressure tools should be used to change Israel’s behavior. The minister also called for sanctions against Israeli cabinet members and settlers due to rising violence against West Bank residents.
Meanwhile, U.S. Congresswoman Ro Khanna reported that during a visit to a Palestinian village in the West Bank, she and her delegation were stopped and detained by armed Israeli settlers. She said armed individuals blocked the vehicle path with weapons.
The Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories, particularly the West Bank, have seen increased tensions and conflicts in recent years. Israeli settlement activity remains a core point of contention in relations between Europe and Israel.
