Tourmaline Mining Begins in Kapisa Promising 200 Jobs

The head of mines and petroleum for the Taliban administration in Kapisa province announced the official start of tourmaline gemstone extraction in the Alah Say district of the province. According to officials, this project is being carried out in the Hassanabad area through eight mining shafts and is expected to create jobs for more than 200 people.
Enayatullah Iblagh, head of mines and petroleum in Kapisa, stated that tourmaline is a precious gemstone with a hardness of 7.5 and is widely used in the global jewelry industry due to its unique prismatic crystals.
Kapisa province is located northeast of Kabul, and some of its districts hold deposits of precious and semi-precious stones. However, experts have consistently emphasized the need for transparent management of mining revenues and their use in the development of local areas—a matter that, under the current Taliban administration, requires clearer oversight and accountability.
