Taliban Interior Ministry Officials Meet with Media in Paktia Province

Officials from the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior held an official visit to Paktia province, where they met with the governor and deputy governor to discuss security conditions and cooperation with the media.

According to published information, Haji Mawlawi Abdul Hakim Hammat Akhundzada, Head of Public Relations of the Ministry, and Mufti Abdul Mateen Qani, the Ministry’s spokesperson, also visited security units including the ‘Red Unit’ commander. They held a joint meeting with local media officials and journalists.

During the meeting, Taliban officials emphasized what they described as the “honest role of the media” in strengthening national unity, nationwide stability, and Islamic values, urging journalists to consider these aspects when reporting events. They also highlighted the media’s role in keeping hope alive in society by reflecting “truths and positive developments.”

After hearing the perspectives of media representatives, the officials assured full coordination and cooperation with the professional activities of journalists. However, this meeting takes place amid rising restrictions on media activities in Afghanistan over recent years, with several journalists expressing concerns about pressures and limitations on their work—an ongoing serious challenge to freedom of expression in the country.
