New Medical Oxygen Plant Opens at Mirwais Hospital in Kandahar

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has announced the inauguration of a new medical oxygen plant at Mirwais Hospital in Kandahar city. According to the organization, this facility will supply vital oxygen needs for newborns, young children, mothers, and emergency patients. Tajuddin Oywali, UNICEF’s representative in Afghanistan, wrote in a message on his X account that the project was launched during the recent visit of Sanjay Wijesekera, UNICEF’s Regional Director for South Asia, to Kandahar. He described the presence of senior UNICEF officials at the ceremony as a sign of the organization’s commitment to strengthening health services in southern Afghanistan. Mirwais Hospital is one of the largest medical centers in the southern region of the country, serving many patients from Kandahar and neighboring provinces. The establishment of this plant is expected to reduce the hospital’s reliance on external oxygen sources and ensure more sustainable access to essential care for patients.
