Taliban Transfers 772 Drug Addicts to Treatment Centers Across 12 Provinces

The Taliban’s Ministry of Interior has announced that its anti-narcotics police have identified and transferred 772 drug addicts to treatment centers in Kabul and 11 other provinces during the past week.

According to the ministry, these individuals were gathered from various areas of Kabul city and the provinces of Balkh, Kunduz, Ghazni, Kandahar, Farah, Nimroz, Herat, Uruzgan, Ghor, Daikundi, and Helmand. The stated goal of this action is to move them to centers for drug treatment and rehabilitation.

The Taliban administration’s campaign to collect drug addicts continues after previous similar efforts in major cities. However, no details have been released regarding the capacity of treatment centers, duration of treatment, or follow-up on the recovery status of those admitted.

Health experts consistently emphasize that sustainable combat against addiction requires comprehensive treatment programs, psychological support, and employment opportunities for those recovering—elements that, without transparency and long-term planning, are unlikely to yield satisfactory results.
