Supreme Leader Declares Revenge for Martyred Leaders as Iran’s National Demand

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, in a message on the occasion of the funeral and burial ceremony of the martyred leader of the revolution and his companions, stated that avenging the blood of the martyrs is the “demand of the Iranian nation” and that this demand “will certainly be fulfilled.” This message was released on Thursday, July 9, 2020 (18th of Tir in the Iranian calendar).

In the message, appreciation was expressed for the large public turnout at funeral ceremonies in various cities across Iran and Iraq, including Tehran, Qom, Mashhad, Najaf, and Karbala. This presence was described as a sign of commitment to the path of the martyrs. The Supreme Leader called these gatherings a manifestation of solidarity and the continuation of the declared path.

Addressing the “Martyr Imam of the Nation,” the Supreme Leader emphasized that the Iranian nation will continue his path and doctrine and will not fear difficulties along the way. Part of the message reads: “We pledge to take revenge for your pure blood and all the martyrs of these two wars from the disgraceful criminal killers. This revenge is the demand of our nation and must certainly be carried out.”

He added that achieving this goal does not depend on the presence or absence of individuals or officials, and that this process will continue. According to him, “Whether we are here or not, this matter will come true,” and people everywhere who cherish freedom each have a role in fulfilling this mission.

In another part of the message, the personality and struggles of the martyred leader of the revolution were honored, portraying him as a follower of the school of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him). His martyrdom was seen as a continuation of the culture of Ashura. Prayers were offered for the elevation of the martyrs’ ranks, for patience and reward for the survivors, and for victory and assistance for the Iranian nation.
