Distribution of 1.9 Million Mosquito Nets Begins in Three Eastern Provinces of Afghanistan

The Ministry of Public Health has announced the launch of a campaign to distribute over 1.9 million mosquito nets to prevent malaria and dengue in the provinces of Nangarhar, Kunar, and Laghman. This program aims to reduce the risk of infection and increase families’ access to protective tools.

According to the ministry’s statement, the initial phase of distribution has started in the districts of Nazyan and Dur Baba in Nangarhar, Dara-i-Pech in Kunar, and Alishang in Laghman. In subsequent phases, other districts of these three provinces will also be covered.

The information provided states that 1,450,000 mosquito nets will be distributed in Nangarhar, 425,000 in Kunar, and 48,520 in Laghman. Additionally, the distribution of 97,524 mosquito nets specifically for pregnant women through antenatal care services (ANC1) in the eastern zone is ongoing.

The statement further notes that 132,787 mosquito nets have been allocated for returnee migrants arriving via the Torkham route, with distribution expected to commence soon.

Malaria is a parasitic disease transmitted by the bite of infected mosquitoes, typically accompanied by fever, chills, headache, and weakness. Dengue is a viral disease caused by the bite of a different type of mosquito, which can cause high fever, muscle and joint pain, and in severe cases, dangerous complications.
