UNDP Support Preserves 400 Jobs and Creates 100 New Opportunities at Balkh Company

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) announced that its support for the company “TAK Dry Fruit” in Mazar-i-Sharif has resulted in the preservation of 400 jobs and the creation of 100 new employment opportunities. According to released information, out of the 400 jobs preserved, 300 belonged to women.
Alexander De Croo, the head of the United Nations Development Programme, visited the company during his trip to Mazar-i-Sharif and closely reviewed its operations. According to UNDP, these supports have also strengthened supply chains, benefiting approximately three thousand farmers engaged in the production and supply of dried fruit.
Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of Balkh province, is considered one of the major commercial and agricultural hubs in northern Afghanistan, with dried fruit production being a key sector of the local economy. Strengthening such companies can play an important role in the economic sustainability of families and reducing unemployment.
This comes amid growing domestic and international concerns over restrictions imposed by the Taliban administration on women’s work and activities in recent years. In this context, maintaining and creating job opportunities for women by international organizations is regarded as one of the few ways to support their economic presence in society.
