Bus Overturns on Kabul-Kandahar Highway: One Dead, 28 Injured

The Taliban police command in Zabul has announced that a passenger bus overturned in the Bazargan area of Shah Joy district, resulting in one death and at least 28 injuries. According to the authorities, among the injured are 18 men, six women, and four children.

Zabiullah Johar, spokesperson for the Taliban police command in Zabul, stated that the incident occurred early Monday morning, July 6, on the Kabul-Kandahar highway. He added that the injured received first aid and were transferred to the nearest hospital.

Reports indicate that the accident involved the overturning of a type 580 passenger vehicle. The passengers were traveling from Herat to Kabul. The primary cause of the incident has not yet been determined, and the Taliban administration has not provided further details regarding the event.

The Kabul-Kandahar highway is one of the country’s busiest routes and has frequently been the site of traffic accidents. In recent months, road incidents across various parts of Afghanistan have increased. Several experts attribute the rise to driver negligence, lack of effective enforcement of traffic laws, widespread issuance of driving licenses, and the distribution of permits for vehicles that do not meet technical standards—issues for which the relevant Taliban authorities bear direct responsibility.
