The Taliban’s Disaster Preparedness Department has signed a $92,044 agreement with the ActionAid organization to assist 1,383 families affected by natural disasters in the provinces of Nangarhar and Kunar. This agreement includes the establishment of three emergency committees and the distribution of health and preventive packages.

According to the Taliban administration’s press release, these emergency committees will be set up in the two mentioned provinces and equipped with the necessary tools to improve coordination and response to potential incidents. Nangarhar and Kunar are among the provinces that face annual floods and other natural disasters, with residents of some districts having high vulnerability.

In the Dara Noor district of Nangarhar and the Nurgal district of Kunar, health preservation packages containing 19 health items will be distributed to 1,383 families. Additionally, water purification tablets and cholera preventive materials have been designated for 40 other families.

This agreement was signed by Mulla Nooruddin Torabi, Director General of the Taliban Disaster Preparedness Department, and Sri Kanta Misra, head of ActionAid. Torabi emphasized the timely implementation of the project, close coordination with the Taliban administration, and adherence to transparency and accountability, stating that humanitarian aid should reach those in need directly with minimal administrative costs.

Meanwhile, given the extensive needs in the affected areas, it is expected that the Taliban administration will facilitate transparent monitoring and equitable access for the affected families to these aids to strengthen public trust in the humanitarian assistance distribution process.
