Russia Announces Creation of ‘Buffer Zone’ Against Ukraine Amid Rising Tensions

A spokesperson for the Russian presidential office announced that Moscow is compelled to establish a security or buffer zone to protect its citizens, citing what it described as Kyiv’s “aggressive nature.” These remarks come as tensions between the two countries continue unabated.
According to Russian media, Dmitry Peskov stated that Ukrainian armed forces, facing worsening conditions on the battlefronts, have escalated attacks on Russia’s civilian infrastructure. He provided no further details on how this buffer zone would be implemented.
Peskov also accused the European Union of transforming into a “military-political” bloc, a move that Moscow believes could broaden the scope of the Ukraine conflict.
The Kremlin spokesman added that Moscow welcomes Steve Witkoff, the US President’s special envoy, and Jared Kushner, and that communication between the parties is ongoing. These remarks come amid continuing diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions between Russia and Ukraine.
