Construction of Small Water Dam Begins in Arghandab District, Kandahar

The Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development under the Taliban administration announced the commencement of constructing a small water dam (checkdam) in Mansurabad village, Arghandab district, Kandahar province. The project’s cost is estimated at more than 4.4 million Afghanis.
According to the released information, the dam will be 27 meters long and five meters high, with a water storage capacity of 26,280 cubic meters. The purpose of its construction is to capture rainwater and strengthen water resources in the area.
Officials stated that during the dam’s construction, employment opportunities will be provided for dozens of local residents. It is also anticipated that upon completion of the project, the groundwater levels in these areas will be preserved and improved.
Development experts consistently emphasize that implementing small water projects in agricultural provinces like Kandahar can effectively manage water resources. However, transparency in budget expenditure and continuous monitoring of work quality are aspects that the Taliban administration is expected to be accountable for in this regard.
