Jamaat-ul-Ahrar Announces Official Split from Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan

Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, a well-known faction of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), has officially announced its separation from the coalition and its resumption of activities as an independent group. According to an official statement released by the group, this decision was made following internal consultations.
Asad Mansoor, the spokesperson for Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, said in the statement that the group’s leadership decided to revive its activities with the “original spirit” and to restore the organizational structure that existed before August 2020. He added that the group will now operate independently under the leadership of Omar Khorasani.
Jamaat-ul-Ahrar had rejoined the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan in August 2020 after years of operating separately. The group recently claimed responsibility for a suicide attack on a Pakistan Rangers base in Karachi.
The new statement cited internal disputes, what it described as “betrayal,” and organizational dissatisfaction as the main reasons for ending the merger with the TTP. So far, the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan has not issued any official response to the announcement of this split.
