Frequent Power Outages in Kabul Prompt Calls for Transparent Management

As temperatures rise in Kabul, frequent power outages in recent days have become a serious challenge for the city’s residents. Citizens say the demand for electricity has increased in hot weather, but repeated blackouts have disrupted their work schedules and daily lives.

Some residents continue to emphasize the need to reduce Afghanistan’s dependence on imported electricity. Farjad, another Kabul resident, states that as long as the country relies on electricity imports, supplier countries can reduce supply at any time, causing serious problems for the people. He calls for increased investment in domestic energy resources.

Breshna Company has announced that the recent increase in power outages is mainly due to higher consumption during the summer season, supply limitations, and some technical issues in the transmission network. The company added that efforts to reduce outages, improve network management, and ensure fair electricity distribution are ongoing.

Mohammad Sadiq Haqparast, spokesperson for Breshna Company, said that with the rising summer heat, power outages tend to increase, but there is no fundamental problem with electricity supply, and the available electricity is distributed among consumers according to a specific schedule.

However, this ongoing situation has again raised questions about the Taliban administration’s long-term plans to develop domestic energy resources and reduce reliance on imports—an issue citizens consider the key solution to ending the recurring electricity crises.
