Taliban Reports Return of 337 Afghan Migrant Families from Neighboring Countries

The Taliban administration has announced the return of 337 families, comprising 1,901 Afghan migrants, from neighboring countries back to Afghanistan. According to officials from the administration, the majority of these individuals entered Afghanistan through the Torkham border crossing.

Hamdullah Fetrat, deputy spokesperson for the Taliban administration, stated in a press release on Saturday, July 4, that 304 families, including 1,560 individuals, returned via the Torkham route alone. He added that 15 families crossed through the Spin Boldak border in Kandahar province, 16 families through the Islam Qala border in Herat, and two families via the Bahramcha border in Helmand province.

The return of these families comes amid reports of increased deportations and forced returns of Afghan migrants, particularly from Pakistan. Many of these families face shortages of shelter, job opportunities, and basic services upon their arrival.

Under these circumstances, it is expected that the Taliban administration will present a clear and practical plan to provide housing, employment, and support for returnees. Lack of preparedness and effective management could further strain the labor market and urban areas, exacerbating social challenges.
