Taliban Officials Discuss Natural Disaster Management Cooperation with UN Representative

The Department for Disaster Management and Preparedness under the Taliban administration has announced that Mullah Nooruddin Turabi, the head of the department, met with Bruno Lemere, Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Development, to discuss expanding collaboration in natural disaster management.
According to the released information, both parties talked about developing technical and practical cooperation in disaster management and implementing preventive projects to reduce damages caused by natural events. Afghanistan is among the countries vulnerable to earthquakes, floods, and droughts, with residents of several provinces facing the consequences of these events every year.
The meeting also emphasized the continuation of humanitarian aid and strengthening coordination among responsible agencies. Both sides considered the implementation of infrastructure projects crucial to reducing risks and preventing further damage from natural disasters.
In recent years, international relief organizations have consistently highlighted the necessity of preventive programs and effective disaster management in Afghanistan, noting that successful implementation requires regular coordination, transparency, and broad access to vulnerable areas.
