Sweden Pledges 50 Million Kronor to Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund Amid Severe Funding Shortfall

The Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund announced that Sweden has contributed 50 million kronor, equivalent to 5.25 million US dollars, to this fund. This aid comes at a time when Afghanistan’s humanitarian response plan is facing a serious budget shortfall this year.
The fund expressed its gratitude to the Swedish government for this contribution in a statement published on the social media platform X on Wednesday, June 30. According to the organization, securing new resources will enable vital assistance to reach more areas and communities in need of support.
The statement added that mobilizing resources and coordinating among partners provides an opportunity to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable communities and build a more resilient future. This is especially critical given the economic crisis and widespread restrictions under Taliban rule.
Previously, Sweden had also contributed 2.99 million US dollars to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund. Despite these contributions, the Afghanistan Humanitarian Response Plan has so far received only slightly more than 16 percent of its requested funding, and aid organizations warn of continued resource shortages.
